Aw Yeah Comics: Your Multiverse of Marvels and Collectibles

There’s a buzz on Charles Street—and it’s not just Spidey-senses tingling.

Step into Aw Yeah Comics, and you’ll immediately feel like you’ve popped into a panel of your favorite graphic novel. Shelves burst with color and charisma. Somewhere, a kid laughs at “Bluey.” A college student is deep in a Batman back issue. And if you listen closely, you might hear a conversation about story arcs and indie breakthroughs that’ll change your pull list forever.

At the helm of this kaleidoscope of creativity is Dr. Christina Blanch—professor, author, comic book writer, small business owner, and lifelong fan of the power of story. Christina’s journey from classroom to comic shop is as epic as any origin story. She used comics to teach complex ideas long before pop culture got its academic badge of honor. Now, alongside her life partner, she’s created a space where comic books are celebrated.

And oh, what a celebration it is.

Aw Yeah Comics, the only comic shop in downtown and proudly so, first opened its doors in Muncie with a mission: to be a welcoming, inclusive place where everyone could find something they love. Eleven years later in 2025 (happy anniversary, by the way), that mission hasn’t changed. It’s only grown. Like Groot.

Christina curates a collection that spans from 1940s classics to the week’s hottest releases. Yes, there are Marvel and DC staples, but also academic comics, indie darlings like “Invincible” and “Strangers in Paradise,” and unexpected finds like “We Eat Gods.” Looking for something in particular? Just ask. They’ll help you source it—even if it means hunting down that one impossible-to-find Punk toy a kid had their heart set on for Christmas. (Spoiler: They found it. Holiday saved.)

Need your weekly fix? There’s a new order every single week. Want to talk storylines, fan theories, or favorite artists? Christina lives for those conversations.

There’s a kind of magic that happens when local businesses become anchors of the neighborhood—and Aw Yeah Comics has that magic in spades.

“Everyone’s invested in downtown,” Christina says, and you can tell she means it. “We want to be something for Muncie.”

From livestream check-ins (“What We Do in the Comic Shop” airs regularly on Facebook and YouTube) to epic events like the annual Muncie Comic Con—now in its fourth year—this isn’t just a place to buy books. It’s a place to meet creators Jay Fosgitt and Phillip Kennedy Johnson. Or Jonathan Peterson. Or maybe your next best friend.

That’s the Aw Yeah effect.

Christina dreams of a downtown where people make an entire day of it: eating, shopping, wandering, discovering. With places like Aw Yeah Comics in the lineup, that dream feels delightfully within reach.

Whether you’re a die-hard collector, a parent looking for an all-ages read, or someone who just really needs a Ted Lasso notebook in their life (relatable), Aw Yeah Comics is your next destination. Bright, bold, and brimming with heart—just like the best comic books. It’s the kind of place you’ll find only in DWNTWN.
