Fire Up DWNTWN Unveils New Attractions for This Year's Celebration
Fire Up DWNTWN is celebrating five years of fire in downtown Muncie with even more excitement, featuring a lineup of brand-new attractions designed to send spirits soaring, get hearts racing, and give visitors even more reasons to join the celebration on Saturday, August 1, from noon to 10 p.m.
Presented by Ivy Tech Muncie and produced by Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, the fifth annual festival will introduce model aircraft demonstrations, the first DWNTWN Duck Drop, a zip line, and an RC car racing demonstration. These new experiences will join a full day of live music, family activities, contests, local food, hot air balloons, shopping, and entertainment throughout downtown.
One of this year’s most anticipated additions is the DWNTWN Duck Drop, sponsored by Destination: Muncie. Hundreds of rubber ducks will be released from a remote-control helicopter at Canan Commons during Fire Up for participants to pick from. Participants can purchase tickets for ducks for a chance to win prizes from DWNTWN Merchants or the $500 Grand Prize. Each ticket you purchase is an opportunity to choose a duck. Each duck is $5.
“Fire Up DWNTWN has always been about creating memorable experiences that bring our community together,” said Amanda Holmquist, Executive Director of Muncie Downtown Development Partnership. “This year’s new attractions bring even more energy and give visitors something new to discover throughout the day.”
The festival will also feature model aircraft demonstrations, a simulator, and free balsa wood plane kits (while supplies last), courtesy of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, along with a zip line sponsored by Destination: Muncie and an RC car racing demonstration.
Popular favorites will be returning, including DWNTWN IDOL Round Two performances, local food trucks and vendors, family activities, hot air balloons, the Balloon Glow Show, and a fireworks finale.
